ABOUT
Welcome to the glittering underbelly of 1950s New York. Struggling press agent Sidney Falco will do anything for his big break, but he can’t do it without the help of the city’s most feared gossip columnist, J.J. Hunsecker. As J.J. pulls Sidney deeper into his treacherous world, Sidney’s loyalties are caught between J.J.’s sister, the jazz musician she loves, and J.J. himself.
Based on the film noir classic, this 2002 musical features a jazz-fueled score by Academy Award winner Marvin Hamlisch (A Chorus Line) and Tony Award nominee Craig Carnelia (Working), with a book by Tony Award winner John Guare (Six Degrees of Separation). Guare and Carnelia are revising their work for MasterVoices’ production alongside director Ted Sperling (Floyd Collins).
Sweet Smell of Success will feature some of the finest musical theatre talents of today, led by Raúl Esparza (Company) as J.J. Hunsecker, Ali Louis Bourzgui (The Who’s Tommy) as Sidney Falco, Lizzy McAlpine (Floyd Collins) as Susan, Noah J. Ricketts (The Great Gatsby) as Dallas, and Aline Mayagoitia (Real Women Have Curves) as Rita. The cast is rounded out by Clarisse Austin, Brian Binion, Ben Cherington, Brandon Leffler, Colby Q. Lindeman, Viviana Rincon, Brian Vaughn, Clyde Voce, Jayme Wappel, and The MasterVoices Chorus.
