Chorus Membership FAQs

  1. Who are The MasterVoices Chorus?

You can learn more about us and our history on the ABOUT US section of the website.

  2. Do you need my voice part?

All voice parts are welcome to audition.

  3. Do I have to be a trained singer?

Although you are not required to have had formal voice lessons or training, all members are expected to be able to sing on pitch, in accurate rhythm and to have some sight-singing ability.

  4. What musical experience should I have?

Previous choral experience is not necessary, but helpful.

  5. How do I audition?

Just a short video (or audio) of you singing a song, in any style, and a brief description of your singing background.  That’s it! For more information or to send in your audition video, please contact Ronny Viggiani at

  6. What is MasterVoices singing this season?

When the season schedule is set, it will be posted on our home page.

  7. Are there membership dues?

We have eliminated the annual dues, the Singers Council felt that eliminating dues would help to make MasterVoices as inclusive as possible, removing any possible barrier to sing with the group.

We ask each member to contribute an: $80 music/licensing fee for the season. This fee will cover part of the cost of our music (licensing, printing, etc).

  8. What are the current Membership/Attendance policies?

Our success as an organization is dependent upon a passionate and committed membership! Members are expected to be in attendance at all regular rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances. Life is unpredictable, and so there are obvious exceptions for illness, life events, and professional conflicts. You are expected to keep our chorus manager and section leaders up-to-date on your availability. Members with excessive absences may be asked to not perform in an upcoming concert. The full calendar for the season is available on our Singing Member Page.

Each year MasterVoices has a ticket minimum requirement for each concert. We encourage you to invite friends/family to attend our concerts to fulfill your ticket minimum. The goal of ticket minimum is to increase concert attendance and viability. The ticket requirement* for the season will be posted on our Singing Member Page once approved by the Singer’s Council. The minimum ticket price for each concert is $30.

*As always, anyone for whom the licensing fee and/or ticket minimum is a hardship can reach out to our chorus manager for a waiver or reduction in these obligations. We do not want these obligations to be a barrier for anyone singing with us

  9. When and where are rehearsals, and what can I expect?

Rehearsals are held Monday evenings, September through the end of the Concert Season, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Rehearsals will be held at ANNUNCIATION GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH
302 W. 91st Street, New York, NY 10024 – Demas Hall on the Ground Floor on the upper west side of Manhattan. During concert weeks, other daytime or evening rehearsals will be scheduled. Visit our Singing Membership page for to view the full rehearsal schedule.

Our rehearsals are devoted mainly to ensemble-building and interpreting musical expression. You will also be coached in diction and vocal technique at rehearsals. Singers are expected to learn the notes by themselves to the best of their abilities. Of course, we go over the notes of very difficult or tricky passages.

  10. How do I obtain the music?

Music will be supplied at rehearsals. Singers may use hard copies of the score or download digital files from the Singing Members Page to be viewed on their own personal electronic devices.

  11. What do we wear at the concert?

Concert dress is dictated based on the concert style.
Tenors/Basses may be expected to wear a concert suit/tux for designated concerts.

If the attire designated for a performance presents a hardship for any member, MasterVoices will assist in providing that attire.

  12. How do I get access to the Singing Members Page?

Once you are accepted as a member of The MasterVoices Chorus, you will get the password to login onto the page. The link to the page can be found on the footer of the MasterVoices webpage.
