Richard J. Miller, Jr.

Richard J. Miller, Jr.  (Rich) was born in Albany, New York and resides both in Albany and New York City.  He is a Partner in the tax, benefits and private client group of the law firm of Blank Rome LLP.  Mr. Miller earned a BA from Williams College, a JD from Albany Law School of Union University, and LLM in Taxation from the New York University School of Law, and is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

Mr. Miller is the President of the Metropolitan Opera Guild and an Advisory Director of the Metropolitan Opera Association.  He also serves on numerous other volunteer boards and organizations, including MasterVoices, the Bagby Foundation for the Musical Arts, Inc., The American Friends of the Ivan Fischer Opera Company, the Advisory Board of the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University, the New Criterion, and the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory.   He has served on the Boards of Glimmerglass Opera, the Lake George Opera Festival, The International Friends of the Festival in Aix-en-Provence, The American Friends of the Royal Academy, The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and The Emma Willard School.

As a musician (a tenor), he has performed with professional and amateur companies, international festivals, and college organizations.  He has sung all the leading tenor roles of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and has been characterized as having “a voice of considerable power and sweetness, an oboe rather than a violin.”
