Handel’s timely oratorio about the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt takes on breathtaking new resonance through this multimedia interpretation, adapted from Los Angeles Master Chorale’s critically acclaimed production that premiered at Disney Concert Hall last February. Maestro Sperling will lead soprano Mikaela Bennett, Countertenor John Holiday and Tenor, Andrew Stenson alongside young artists from the Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts at Juilliard. The classical sounds of the New York Baroque Incorporated period instrument ensemble will blend with poignant contemporary images by Syrian-Armenian visual artist Kevork Mourad as he creates a combination of pre-composed film and in-the-moment paintings that bring a personal perspective to the work’s human themes of exile, displacement, and longing for home.
