MasterVoices | Community Members from Lawrence, NY | Ted Sperling, Conductor

Bridges – Connecting Communities Through Music” is MasterVoices’ new community outreach initiative that provides people in a New York community with the opportunity to come together to make music with MasterVoices, regardless of their abilities or backgrounds.

On June 5 at Ansche Chesed Synagogue, MasterVoices, Artistic Director Ted Sperling, soloists Katie Geissinger and Sachal Vasandani, and diverse community members from Lawrence, Long Island come together to perform Naamah’s Ark, a new MasterVoices commission by composer Marisa Michelson and librettist Royce Vavrek.

Inspired by Hurricane Sandy, which unified different communities in a time of strife, Michelson and Vavrek’s melodic and earthy new community oratorio is set after the great flood in the story of Noah’s Ark, at the point in which all of the different species of animals must learn how to share the future.

The program will open with MasterVoices performing traditional spiritual Didn’t It Rain  (arranged by Michael A. Gray) and Eric Whitacre’s Cloudburst.
